5 Nigerian football stars who married ‘Oyinbo’ women

Nigerian footballers are some of the most travelled sportsmen, scattered all over the world playing the game they dearly love.

During the course of their nomadic careers, they meet and fall in love with what we Nigerians call ‘Oyibo women’.

Take a look at five Nigerian football stars (active and retired) who married or have children with ‘Oyinbo’ wives.

1. Osaze Odemwingie 

Former Super Eagles star Odemwingie is married to an English woman, Sarah Fallon.

Odemwingie married Fallon in May 2012 May 2012 at a church in Northampton after two years of dating.

The couple now has three kids, two sons and a daughter.

Odemwingie and Sarah met at a local bar.

The 35-year-old forward has played in Russia, Belgium, France, England and now plays in Indonesia. 

2. John Mikel Obi  

Super Eagles captain Mikel Obi’s partner is a Russian. It is not known if Mikel and Olga Diyachenko are married although is believed that they are.

The couple has a twin daughter, Mia and Ava born in September 2016.

Mikel and Olga started dating in 2013 after reportedly meeting him in London where her late dad ran a chain of businesses.

Mikel has played in Norway, England and now plays in China. 

3. Daniel Amokachi  

Former Nigeria international Daniel Amokachi is married to Nadia, a Tunisian and both have three children together.

There is a popular fictitious story that he met his Nadia while playing for Nigeria at the 1994 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) that held in Tunisia.

The now coach, however, met his wife in France while he working as a model. They later met again in Tunisia in 1995 and the rest they say is history.

During the course of his career, the 44e-year-old played in Belgium, England, Turkey and United States.

He is now a coach with a club in Finland. 

4. Sunday Oliseh  

Having kept much of his private life out of the public, little is known about Oliseh and his Ethiopian wife, Hafidah.

It is not clear when the couple met and got married, but their several photos from their wedding day on the internet.

Hafidah has one son, Denzel for Oliseh.

Oliseh played his football in Belgium, Italy, Netherlands and Germany.

5. John Utaka

Former Super Eagles forward, John Utaka is married to an ‘Oyinbo’ too.

Little detail is known about the couple but Utaka got married to his wife in 2013 in France.

Utaka’s career took him to Egypt, France, England and Turkey.
