Everton have agreed a £12million fee to sign Swansea City captain
Ashley Williams. The Toffees had seen an initial bid of £10m rejected
but returned for the Wales international centre back following the
£47.5m sale of John Stones to Manchester City on Tuesday.
Williams made over 340 appearances in all competitions for Swansea
after joining the club from Stockport County. The 31-year-old played a
key role in Swansea’s rise through the divisions from League One to the
Premier League and was a firm fans’ favourite.
He starred at Euro 2016 this summer, helping Wales to progress to an
unlikely semi-final against eventual winners of the competition
Portugal.
